STUDIO SATHYA

My becoming an artist was sheer chance. I am a dietician turned painter. Looking back at my life I feel like the Universe was preparing me for who I am today. Over the years I have come to realize that it must have been the soul’s agenda that guided me, for I had no idea I would become a painter.  At the age of 6, my mother enrolled me into South Indian Carnatic  Veena and Vocal music classes. Later when  I came to the US  I studied Hindustani Classical Sitar and  South Indian Carnatic  music.  I was also studying painting  and Sculpture at the University of Michigan for almost 8 years. Even though cooking is my first passion, over the years painting has slowly taken over.

Though I do not claim to be a music scholar, somehow music comes naturally to me and it has become the primary source of inspiration for all of my paintings.  My affinity for Music and my passion for creating something in color  has become my soul’s agenda.

My 25 years of  Sri Vidya studies, some mysteries of Color and Sound were uncovered to me. I discovered that the sound vibrations emitted by the 7 musical notes, 7 colors of light all exist in the Universe as vibration. The 7 chakras in the human body are designed to harness this vibrational Energy.

According to  Sri Vidya  the mind has a “ Desire” which becomes a” Sound Vibration”. And this sound vibration of “Desire”  travels from its embryonic stage to its manifestation Stage.

The Yogic terms  for the Journey of  the Sound Vibrations is  Para,, Pashyanthi Madhyma and Vaikari and final stage of manifestation.

I wanted to use the same rules used in music composing my paintings. Choosing my colors.  And create paintings that make sense. From my knowledge in the 3 disciplines Color, Music and Yoga I have tried to put together a mathematical color pallet . Now I have to see if this will work.  So I find the notion of presenting “RAGAS” visually will be a good challenge.

Now it has become my SOUL”S quest to find ways of presenting the Indian RAGAS “ Visually”
